Eight galleries off the axis of the Bryant and 24th Street will be open, including Eleanor Hardwood Gallery, Galeria de la Raza, Gallery Hijinks, Guerrero Gallery, Kadist Art Foundation, Southern Exposure, Steven Wolf Fine Arts, and Triple Base with unique programming, from live performance to sipping sessions, spoken word to street projections.
Also, this is the debut of Kadist Art Foundation, located where Folsom meets 20th Street. The new space will be home of two primary programs starting in April, Wednesdays (when they'll have an evening series) and a Saturday Reading Room, featuring dozens of international art magazines (which sounds like my dream come true).
Tonight is also the opening of the People's Gallery, a year-long project gallery organized by Harrell Fletcher, Jens Hoffmann and Jana Blankenship. For the occasion, local chefs Nicole LoBue and Leif Hedendal will serve a spread of event-inspired cuisine, like savory onigiri and sweet blood orange panna cotta, and a special opening night cocktail. Artists Will Rogan and John Herschend of THE THING will host a Parallel Black Jack tournament using artist Ryan Gander's 'issue 9'. The games begin promptly at 7:30 pm and continue until the tournament winner is announced. They say viewers are welcome, but players must reserve a spot in advance. To make a reservation, email Caitlin at support@thethingquarterly.com.
